SEND information - Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND)
At Clayton-le-Woods CE Primary School, inclusion is at the heart of all we do. We support and value the individual talents of all our pupils. It is our duty to provide equal opportunities for every person in our care, within a safe and fully equipped learning environment, which caters to the needs of every child as an individual. We are committed to inclusion within our school curriculum and participation in all aspects of school life. Our primary aim is to integrate pupils with SEND into the academic and social life of Clayton-le-Woods CE Primary School and to enable all pupils to work to their full potential.
Legally, a child is defined as having SEND if he or she has an educational need which may require special teaching. The children who need special education are not only those with obvious learning difficulties, such as those who are physically disabled, or with hearing and visual impairments. They include those whose learning difficulties are less apparent, such as children who struggle to retain skills and concepts and children with emotional difficulties or behaviour difficulties due to an underlying need. Parents may be interested to learn that it is estimated that approximately 25% of our school children require special educational help at some stage of their school careers.
Resources at Clayton-le-Woods CE Primary School are allocated to support pupils with SEND and maximise integration and access to the curriculum. These arrangements can include the employment of a Pupil and Family Support Worker, the provision of classroom assistant support, evidence based interventions, specific reading schemes and relevant computer software. The school draws upon further knowledge and expertise of outside agencies including health professionals, educational psychologists and specialist support teachers amongst many more, in order to ensure that all children's needs are fully explored.
Any parent who has a concern about their child and SEND, should in the first instance talk to their class teacher. An appointment can then be made with the SENDCo, Mrs Howlett, if necessary. There is also a SEND Governor, Mrs Ollie Woodcock, who liaises with the SENDCo and the Governing Body.

Mrs Howlett and the teachers do so much for the children with needs at school. I really find the coloured paper, books and interactive resources helpful for my dyslexia. The daily precision teaching also helps me read and write new words. The support has built my confidence loads and I can do just as much work as my friends. |
Clayton le woods Primary school has been absolutely amazing with my daughter. Every member of staff has worked with her brilliantly, supporting her every day with anything extra she may need. I really can't thank you guys for the fantastic work you do day in, day out, with all the children. Thank you for everything!

Our school is extremely inclusive and adaptive for children with SEND. Our SENDCo and SLT are always proactive in supporting us with providing the most suitable provision and further training if needed. Mrs Howlett has the needs and best interests of the children with SEND as her top priority and will effectively utilise outside agencies to support the school further.

I think the school does amazingly for my child. They go above and beyond.

We work incredibly hard as a team to support ALL pupils. One of our strengths is how quickly and efficiently we adapt to the needs of our pupils. We effectively deploy TAs based on the needs of each cohort and have a wide range of interventions in place additional to close gaps in learning.
|
The teachers are really kind and patient. Things like fidgets and nurture time help me stay calm. My favourite things are brain breaks and sensory circuits, these help me concentrate better on my learning.
|
School has been very supportive of our child, they understood the needs of the child and put a plan in place to help achieve their goals.

I am so proud of the nurturing school we are. We have created some beautiful spaces around school, providing calm, safe spaces to support children with regulation, and a quieter place to learn if needed. These are used particularly well by our ELSA, family support worker, counsellor, play therapist, SENCO but available for everyone. We are a very inclusive school family.

I feel understood at school and like our personalities and needs make us special. We should be proud of our differences. If I struggle to keep calm, I can use my happy breathing. |
Mrs Howlett and the team have been so supportive and accommodating and goes that extra mile to help my child's needs and to support myself. |
Chair of Governors/ SEND Governor: I am incredibly proud of the school’s approach to SEND provision. Every effort is made to identify individual needs as early as possible. Support is provided at many levels through quality first teaching, interventions, nurture, family liaison and external agencies. All our staff strive to nurture and support all our pupils to the best of their ability, utilising the advice and support of our experienced and caring SenCo, Mrs Howlett. Parents/carers can be confident that their children’s needs are identified and supported within the school’s caring, inclusive Christian ethos, ensuring that they make the best possible progress as they move through the school. |
