Off By Heart Poetry Competition

Monday 10th September

Dear Parent/Carer,

We are holding our 9th annual ‘Off By Heart’ Poetry Competition on Friday 10th October 2025

For this competition we are asking all the children to learn one poem 'Off By Heart'. This year, you can choose from the list of poems below, or you can share one of your own favourites, whatever the poem may be, we'd love to hear the children performing it for all to hear.

The children will be reciting their poems in class during the first part of the week and the two winning entries from each class will go through to the Grand Final. So make sure you've learnt your poem by the week beginning 6th October.

As always, we are really looking forward to this event and we need your help to make sure it’s a really tough decision!

All the poems for this year can be accessed on the website and through Seesaw, or for this year, find and learn one of your own (perhaps you have a family favourite).  If your child selects one below, you can ask the class teacher for a printed copy.  The best way of learning a poem is not to try and do it all at once. Little and often, line by line, is often the best approach. Staff and parents are also encouraged to have a go as this will also give the children encouragement!
